The Government has asked the 13th Law Commission to prioritise measures for the owners of leasehold houses. TheCommission has today published its summary paper on proposed solutions for leasehold houses. You can access the paper here.
The paper contains some far-reaching proposals to simplify and speed up enfranchisement procedures and reduce costs involved, also to change the terms upon which a lease can be extended. This is likely to have an impact on the premiums being paid to enfranchise.
Adetailed consultation on a new enfranchisement regime in respect of leasehold houses and flats will be published in Autumn 2018 and it's likely there will be a lively response to it. The Law Commission’s final report is due in 2019.
